The NGO Caribbean Sport and Sustainable Development in partnership with the Guadeloupe Regional Council invites governments, institutions, the private sector, the local and regional media, valuable members of the civil society, existing and potential partners to the inaugural celebration of World Basketball Day 2024 in Guadeloupe.
This landmark event will be held at the famous MACTe, the biggest museum on slave trade and slavery in the World located in Pointe-à-Pitre on December 21st.
In conjunction with this festive celebration, we will be honored to present the Caribbean Sport Tourism Forum under the theme “Intercaribbean Sport Tourism, Which dynamics in 2025?”, which aims to gather key stakeholders from the sports and tourism industries across the region and beyond.
Cultural Integration through Basketball
World Basketball Day 2024 in Dominica is set to leave a lasting legacy beyond the courts. It is an initiative that promotes cultural diplomacy, allowing people from various walks of life to connect and appreciate each other’s uniqueness.
The Caribbean, with its vibrant cultures and rich histories, presents a unique landscape for fostering unity through sports.
Through workshops, community events, and interactive sessions, the event aims to deepen understanding and foster respect among the creole cultures.
By celebrating diversity through the shared passion for basketball, Dominica stands poised to inspire other nations, demonstrating how sports can be a powerful tool for global unity and cultural integration.
Economic Growth via Sports Tourism
The Caribbean, known for its stunning landscapes and warm hospitality, is also globally celebrated for its numerous Olympic and World Champions who have made indelible marks in history. This region, rich in natural beauty and cultural heritage, presents untapped potential in sports tourism.
By hosting events like World Basketball Day, we can showcase our unique strengths, attract international visitors, and spur local economies. Sports tourism not only generates revenue but also offers a multitude of other benefits including community engagement, youth empowerment, and international cooperation.
As we invest in sports infrastructure and programs, we create an ecosystem where talents are discovered, nurtured, and celebrated globally.
Empowering Future Generations
The launch of Kréyol Sport International's sports development programs highlights a commitment to nurturing talent at all levels. These initiatives aim to empower youth and veterans alike, promoting inclusivity and lifelong participation in sports and particularly basketball.
During the forum, Kréyol Sports International will officially announce an array of sports development programs focused on basketball, football, volleyball, beach volleyball, and triathlon. These programs are designed to harness the vibrancy of Creole culture that binds the Caribbean and its diaspora worldwide.
The event aims to empower the youth through sports, cultivating leadership, teamwork, and resilience. Engaging the younger generation is essential for building stronger communities and promoting social development.

The creative economy, also known as the "orange economy," is a rapidly expanding sector in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Within this economy, sports tourism has emerged as a niche area of significant potential. However, the lack of official data and the burden of bureaucratic hurdles continue to pose major challenges to the development of sports tourism businesses in the region. In the first edition of a biannual Sports Tourism Forum, we aim to explore the creative economy in the LAC, with a special focus on the French West Indies (FWI).
Organized by Caribbean Sport & Sustainable Development , a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Guadeloupe, in collaboration with key stakeholders, this forum seeks to illuminate the untapped opportunities within the sports tourism sector and the high necessity to launch innovative grassroot sport programs in the dynamic of the United Nations's development goals in the Caribbean. It also emphasizes the critical need for data collection to monitor and measure the sector's growth.
This forum represents a collaborative effort between CSDD, local, regional, and international partners to help communities and governments understand the impact and growth potential of sports tourism. Through these discussions, we hope to address the challenges, propose strategies for overcoming them, and highlight the immense economic benefits that sports tourism can bring to the region.
